Development of a Gigabit Ethernet-Passive Optical Network (GE-PON) 德赢ac米兰vwin

德赢ac米兰vwin Co., Ltd. has developed the first FITELwaveAG20R—the first GE-PON(note 1)Subscriber Terminal equipped with a wireless LAN router for the cable TV industry. The unit is compliant 德赢ac米兰vwin latest high-speed wireless LAN standard using the 5GHz band, providing an optical broadband experience comparable to a wired connection even when using a wireless connection.
德赢ac米兰vwin will begin taking orders for this product in September 2014 and sales are scheduled to begin in December of the same year.

Background

In recent years, 德赢ac米兰vwin spread of wireless LAN devices epitomized by the smartphone, the mainstream is shifting from the past form of enjoying the Internet using a computer and a wired connection to a form using a wide variety of devices and a wireless connection, so the introduction of wireless LAN base units and routers in the home is becoming vital.
In domestic cable television broadband service up to now, however, GE-PON 德赢ac米兰vwins were provided with a single function, and subscribers who wanted to use router or wireless LAN functions either had to introduce a commercially available product, or one provided and supported by their cable TV operator.
Under these circumstances, subscribers had trouble 德赢ac米兰vwin increase in network equipment in the home and selecting, installing, and setting up wireless LAN routers, and there was an even greater call for an integration of equipment and services.

PON is the generic term for technology that realizes Internet connection services over high-efficiency optical fiber through branching using passive elements in the optical access line. One type of PON is called GE-PON, which is a network that transmits data over Gigabit Ethernet used in conventional LANs. This technology enables economical, high-speed (bi-directional 1 Gb/s) Internet connection services over optical access lines. It is standardized on the IEEE 802.3ah standard set in 2004 by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and we have subsequently developed 1Gbps optical fiber connection service via GE-PON internally and externally.
