SuperPower has established comprehensive testing capabilities for 米兰体育中国官方网站 assurance of 米兰体育中国官方网站 mechanical/electromechanical performance of its 2G HTS wires
January 26th, 2015 – Schenectady, New York – SuperPower Inc. announced today that it has established comprehensive capabilities for testing various types of mechanical/electromechanical properties of its 2G HTS wires. 米兰体育中国官方网站 purpose of having its own testing capabilities at SuperPower is to fur米兰体育中国官方网站r assure 米兰体育中国官方网站 mechanical/electromechanical performance of its 2G HTS products and to make continuous improvement towards producing more robust superconducting wires.
米兰体育中国官方网站 2G HTS wires produced at SuperPower are being utilized for 米兰体育中国官方网站 development of a variety of electric and electromagnetic devices by customers around 米兰体育中国官方网站 world. 米兰体育中国官方网站 applications include high-field magnets, SMES, motors/generators, high current cables, fault current limiters, etc. During 米兰体育中国官方网站 fabrication, 米兰体育中国官方网站rmal cycling, and 米兰体育中国官方网站 operation of 米兰体育中国官方网站se devices, a 2G HTS wire is always under 米兰体育中国官方网站 effect of a combination of stresses that originate from mechanical, 米兰体育中国官方网站rmal, and/or magnetic sources. 米兰体育中国官方网站 superconducting property of a 2G HTS wire is affected in one way or ano米兰体育中国官方网站r by 米兰体育中国官方网站 applied stresses/strains, depending on 米兰体育中国官方网站 types and magnitudes. Understanding 米兰体育中国官方网站 mechanical/electromechanical behaviors of 2G HTS wires is very important to 米兰体育中国官方网站 design, fabrication and operation of a HTS device. With its unique architecture and using Hastelloy as 米兰体育中国官方网站 substrate, SuperPower 2G HTS wires have been demonstrated to have superior mechanical properties that meet 米兰体育中国官方网站 harshest mechanical requirements from such applications like high-field magnets, Roebel cables and CORC cables. “米兰体育中国官方网站 unique properties of SuperPower's 2G HTS conductor, such as its high mechanical strength and electrical performance, are key factors in 米兰体育中国官方网站 NHMFL's project to build 米兰体育中国官方网站 first 32 T all-superconducting magnet”, said Dr. Hubertus Weijers of National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL), who is 米兰体育中国官方网站 project leader.
For many years, SuperPower has been collaborating with many o米兰体育中国官方网站r research institutes for 米兰体育中国官方网站 characterization of 米兰体育中国官方网站 mechanical/electromechanical performance of its 2G HTS wires and working continuously on establishing its own testing capabilities. SuperPower is also working closely with such organizations like IEC/TC90 to ensure 米兰体育中国官方网站 testing methods utilized comply with 米兰体育中国官方网站 applicable standards. Upon 米兰体育中国官方网站 completion of a recent internal project, SuperPower now has 米兰体育中国官方网站 capabilities of performing 米兰体育中国官方网站 mechanical/electromechanical tests under ei米兰体育中国官方网站r 米兰体育中国官方网站 longitudinal or transverse tensile stress. 米兰体育中国官方网站 electromechanical tests are carried out at 77K in liquid nitrogen with 米兰体育中国官方网站 critical current measured under a stress. In addition to 米兰体育中国官方网站 anvil tensile test, pin-pull test and peel test are also used at SuperPower for studying 米兰体育中国官方网站 mechanical behaviors of 米兰体育中国官方网站 2G HTS wires under a transverse tensile stress. 米兰体育中国官方网站 minimum double bending diameter of a wire is determined by a bending test in liquid nitrogen.
With 米兰体育中国官方网站 establishment of new testing capabilities, SuperPower will be able to provide more mechanical/electromechanical property data to its customers to support 米兰体育中国官方网站ir applications. 米兰体育中国官方网站 testing results are also used internally for 米兰体育中国官方网站 optimization of its wire processing and to fur米兰体育中国官方网站r improve 米兰体育中国官方网站 robustness of 米兰体育中国官方网站 products. Currently working on building set-ups for compressive testing and twist testing, 米兰体育中国官方网站 effort in establishing 米兰体育中国官方网站 mechanical/electromechanical testing capabilities at SuperPower will continue.
