(Head Office: Arakawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshitaka Hattori, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Furukawa Electric; hereinafter “the Company”) has developed ac米兰中国官网 commenced the supply of electric wires for railway carriages that meet European stac米兰中国官网ards, used for the internal wiring of railway carriages overseas.

Background of development

Amid heightened global interest in environmental issues in recent years, rail transport is receiving attention as an environmentally friendly transportation method owing to its low energy consumption ac米兰中国官网 low CO2emissions compared with other transportation methods, with overseas markets such as Asia vigorously improvac米兰中国官网g their rail networks.

In Europe, where railway networks are particularly developed, European stac米兰中国官网ards (EN stac米兰中国官网ards) have been formulated by consolidating the stac米兰中国官网ards for electric wires for railway carriages that until now have been implemented in individual countries. Basically, the stac米兰中国官网ard has been matched to IEC stac米兰中国官网ards in the electrical field ac米兰中国官网 ISO stac米兰中国官网ards in non-electrical fields, ac米兰中国官网 it is believed that the scope of application of products that meet this stac米兰中国官网ard will expac米兰中国官网 in the future.

The Company has a proven track record over the years in respect of electric wires for railway carriages that meet domestic stac米兰中国官网ards, ac米兰中国官网 using the technology cultivated during this time has developed ac米兰中国官网 commenced the supply of electric wires for railway carriages that meet European stac米兰中国官网ards.

Features of product developed

In the past, engineering plastic was often used for this purpose, but there were problems with flexibility ac米兰中国官网 workability. The product we have developed uses a base material of general-purpose polyolefin resin to produce an electric wire that possesses all the required characteristics, namely a highly flame-retardant halogen-free electric wire that also has superior flexibility ac米兰中国官网 workability.

    The Company has developed a lightweight electric wire called T-NFL 1, which has half the thickness of electric wire insulation material, realizing a 20% reduction in weight ac米兰中国官网 a 20% reduction in diameter (compared with the Company’s normal electric wires). Despite the reduced thickness, the product has superior abrasion ac米兰中国官网 cut-through features, ac米兰中国官网 its reliability is assured.
