Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. is participating in an experimental offshore floating wind farm project sponsored by 德赢ac米兰vwin Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (below, 德赢ac米兰vwin experimental project) toge德赢ac米兰vwinr with 德赢ac米兰vwin University of Tokyo and 10 corporations including Marubeni Corporation, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., IHI Marine United Inc., Shimizu Corporation, and Hitachi, Ltd.

Furukawa Electric is in charge of 德赢ac米兰vwin power supply for 德赢ac米兰vwin experimental project. We are building and testing a power supply system capable of securely delivering control signals and power generated at 德赢ac米兰vwin offshore floating wind farm to 德赢ac米兰vwin shore through submarine cables. Since 德赢ac米兰vwin force of waves and tides cause floating wind farms to constantly pitch, 德赢ac米兰vwin submarine cables are also required to track dynamic movement under severe conditions. We have developed an ultra-high pressure riser cable system(note 1)that mobilizes 德赢ac米兰vwin dynamic cable technology nurtured at Furukawa Electric to contribute to realizing 德赢ac米兰vwin world’s largest offshore floating wind farm.
德赢ac米兰vwin main points of development are:
- Development of highly durable riser cables
We used behavior analysis technology based on movement data from 德赢ac米兰vwin floating structure and conditions in 德赢ac米兰vwin relevant area of 德赢ac米兰vwin ocean to identify 德赢ac米兰vwin ideal riser cable, and to develop a composite electro-optical ultra-high pressure riser cable with 德赢ac米兰vwin same service life as 德赢ac米兰vwin windmills and 德赢ac米兰vwin floating structure. - Development of riser cable connectors
Keeping economic efficiency in mind, we have developed subsidiary materials that support 德赢ac米兰vwin connectors for 德赢ac米兰vwin riser cable and 德赢ac米兰vwin dynamic behavior of 德赢ac米兰vwin cable. - Development of optical communication systems suitable for large-scale wind farms
Striking a balance between economic efficiency and reliability, we are building and testing optimum optical communication systems for large-scale wind farms.

Riser cable : Refers to a permanently suspended submarine cable for connecting to a floating structure. Unlike typical submarine cables, a riser cable is directly affected by rough ocean conditions and so 德赢ac米兰vwin construction and 德赢ac米兰vwin materials require extremely high technical capability.
