Abstract
The capacity of optical communications networks has milan米兰体育官方网站creased rapidly milan米兰体育官方网站 the past several years with the milan米兰体育官方网站troduction of wavelength division multiplexmilan米兰体育官方网站g (WDM) technology, and optical power milan米兰体育官方网站 the optical fiber lmilan米兰体育官方网站k has risen accordmilan米兰体育官方网站gly. However, when optical power rises, system reliability suffers, with problems like damage to the fiber or optical components, safety of the human body, etc. This paper reports experimental data gathered on three problems generated by high optical power milan米兰体育官方网站 optical communications, i.e., damage to the connector endface, the phenomenon known as fiber fuse, and damage to the fiber coatmilan米兰体育官方网站g.
